pulp can be pigmented and used with limitless effect. The color is the paper, not on the paper. this pulp was beaten for 4 ½ hours, some retention agent added, and very thin so it could be applied through squeeze bottles.
who's to say that paper sheets need to be rectangles? you can shape the paper on the mould before couching, or use an altered deckle. you can essential cut out a "stencil" from half-inch construction foam. it is sometimes pink or dark yellow, covered with foil.
an embedment is an object sandwiched between two or more layers of paper.  If using organic material, be sure it has fully dryed.
you can also add non-pulp material directly to the vat, or mix it in with the paper pulp. this is called an inclusion. pine needles, ground mica, glitter...
